and vice versa

To those of you who declared open war on my family yesterday by banning us from receiving any legal protections from marriage to all-but-meaningless domestic partnership, I have only this to say: we declare war back.

I don't care who you are or why you think it's any of your business whether my child has married parents or not. I know you don't give a flip about families at all (including your own queer children). If you think you love the sinner and hate the sin, think again. We don't need your bastardized, paternalistic idea of love that only includes people you can pity or convert. God loves us and you are no one to be against us.

Here's a bit of what I plan to do: I plan to keep recruiting your children. That's right, every smiling face that enters my classroom in Septemeber is going to be calling you on your hypocricy under the Christmas tree in December. I plan to keep teaching the truth about the Bible. I have no intention of giving it to you to abuse people with. Here's a big truth I plan to teach: God loves queers. God loves Naomi and Ruth and Jonathon and David. Here's another one: Jesus was a radical communitarian feminist. And this one's my favorite: people who put the Bible before love for their brothers and sisters (ie: God) are idolators.

You can't have me or my partner or my kid; not our bodies, not our minds, not our souls.

Oh yeah, it's gay agenda time! Everybody stop sulking and make yourselves fabulous!

Comments:
Please make sure I get my copy of the new and improved Gay Agenda. That old defensive version is not helping at all; I say, let's go on the offensive. Sign me up!

Sign me up too! I'm in. I was feeling a little hopeless. But maybe this 'gay agenda' is all about hope.

Huzzah!

HAH!!! Go! Go! Go!

Shannon thanks for that!

i was just saying here at work this morning...that running away to California or Massachussets or Canada will do nothing but ghetto-ize us....and it's MUCH better for us to stay here in Texas..and be visible and proud. and educate.

i'm sending your blog out to everyone i know today. beware! you are starting a great movement forward!

SOLIDARITY SISTERS! I'm so with you Shannon! Me, my hubby and my baby girl all want on the queer bandwagon! We won't let them ban our baby's aunties and uncles!

I agree with recognizing gay marriage.

I don't agree with pushing your agenda in a school.

Thank you to "pers" for correcting a mistake I made in my post and for trying to explain a bit of the situation to me.

Please seemy updated post for my correction and my response to her.

Thank you for writing this.

Hell yeah, I'm up for the gay agenda. Where do I check in?

And about Art of the Blog’s comment on “pushing [a gay] agenda” in schools, and the “correction” on his/her blog: My kid and Shannon's kid will probably already be exposed to an anti-gay agenda in school and in the world at large. Without education about gay issues, you don’t get a blank slate; what you get is homophobia-by-default that can be harmful to all kids, not just those with lesbian and gay parents.

Bleah. Too tired and discouraged to be more articulate or go on about this at more length. (Besides, it’s Shannon’s blog ;-) Check out these pages:

Damn...where do you get off having so much fight in you? I am so depressed with the turn of events I do not feel like fighting...just eating tiramisu. Glad to know some people still have the energy...I will get back on board but I need a few days...

Good luck...you are going to need it ..we all have an uphill battle from here...

ps I am sorry that I live in a country that does not protect your family..I am soooo embarassed.

You Go Girl!

I am disgusted with people who try to force morality as they see it down our throats.

I happened upon your blog and saw this comment - I have to say I am rather proud of "declaring war" on your family as you call it, as I am one of the horrible "fake", as you would say Christians, who does recognize the distinctions of law and gospel, and knows that God is love, but just as a parent desires their children to follow their rules, God desires us to follow His, which do not include same sex relationships. If you truly believe Naomi and Ruth were lesbians you are so sadly reading into things to see what you desire, rather than allowing God to mold and shape your opinions, and have not yet grasped the deep truth that submitting your life to God sometimes means that you don't get your own way.

Shannon! You've been trolled! Well done!

love,

your sister in perversion and Christianity,

WOW!
where do you teach that they actually allow you to spew this sort of hate into the classroom? I want to be sure i never move there.
Regardless of Biblical views or party allignment--your attitude towards what it is your duty to impart in the name of knowledge sucks!

You know, if you're going to spout off on someone's blog, it would behoove you to read the thing, rather than just make assumptions all over it.

I'm just sayin.

But, don't listen to me. I have an agenda. You would dislike it greatly. :)
